At Wike, we believe that integrating walking and cycling into your daily lives is essential for better health, happiness and a healthier planet. We believe in the importance of family, fitness and the environment and build products to improve the lives of our valued customers.
OUR HISTORY
Wike Bicycle Trailers have been in production for almost 30 years. Since the 1990's, the majority of our products have been sold direct to consumers. Here is a bit of a history of how our company evolved over the last dozen years.
1990 Company Founded in Guelph, Ontario
1993 First cargo bicycle trailer produced in the founder's basement workshop
1994 First sales event of Wike Bicycle Trailers at the Guelph Farmers Market, cargo trailer only
1995 First patent issues on Wike bike trailer for flip over towbar to use a handle for walking
1996 First child model intoduced
1997 Another patent issued for bicycle trailer stroller and website portal created, selling bicycle trailers online
1998 Patent battles with large corporations and website portal created, selling bicycle trailers online.
1999 First folding electric car built, weighing 100lbs and could fit in a bus cargo compartment
2000 Move business out of home into a 2500 sq. ft industrial unit and hired first fulltime employee
2001 Patent on bicycle trailer jogger conversion
2002 Hired second employee, sales break through $100,000 per year
2003 Expanded product line to pet trailers
2004 Expanded product line to seven items
2005 Hired more sewers and fabricators
2006 Expanded manufacturing to adjacent industrial unit to double floor space size
2007 Introduced more special needs products
2009 Expanded product line to include cargo trailers, Landscaping bike trailer and promotional products
2013 Expanded into third industrial unit
2014 Started selling cargo bikes in North America
2016 Filed patent for bicycle that converts to stroller
2017 Moved factory to 150 Stevenson St. S (downtown) to double size again. Most employees walk or bike to work
2018 Won Gold Medal at Eurobike for the Stroller-Bike
2019 Introduced Electric Stroller-Bike with Shimano mid-drive
2020 Introduced Electric Wheelchair Bicycle
2022 Introduced heavy payload braking bike trailer
WHY WE DO IT
We're dedicated to improving the world's transportation. We believe that bicycling is one of the best ways to stay fit and help the environment. Our products are designed to be part of your healthy and environmentally conscious lifestyle; from taking the kids to the park, to hitting the fairway, to hauling a kayak or canoe, we make a bicycle trailer for every cyclist's need and we support our products after they are sold. We encourage the reuse of our customers used trailers though our Facebook portals by connecting sellers of used Wike products to potential buyers.

Beyond continuously improving our products and inventing new ones on the frontier of the active movement, we're dedicated to the advancement of the world's active transportation foundations. Wike assists local active transportation advocacy groups to influence their municipal governments investment in active transportation infrastructure.
